Accounts Assistant - (Closing date - 31/08/2026)

This role is based within the Finance Department, which plays a crucial role in assisting all divisions across the business.

About the role:

The Accounts Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities for Esh Homes Ltd and a portfolio of joint venture (JV) companies. The role ensures that all financial transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled and processed in a timely manner, while supporting month-end reporting, statutory compliance and the wider finance team.

This is a varied role requiring excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage the financial records of multiple entities simultaneously.

What we will expect from you:

  • Maintain accurate accounting records for the Homes by Esh division across multiple joint venture companies
  • Prepare and post journals, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany transactions
  • Raise sales invoices and process customer receipts, ensuring payments are accurately allocated
  • Monitor outstanding customer balances and support credit control activities
  • Perform bank reconciliations across multiple companies and investigate any discrepancies
  • Post receipts, payments and journals, including month-end intercompany payments
  • Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and resolve reconciling items
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management information ensuring reporting deadlines are met
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies to maintain the integrity of financial records
  • Prepare VAT return information and support VAT compliance processes
  • Ensure financial records comply with company policies, accounting standards and audit requirements
  • Maintain complete and accurate audit trails and assist with year-end audit and statutory reporting
  • Reconcile intercompany balances and partner loan accounts
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
  • Provide assistance to colleagues across the wider finance team as required
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role

Qualifications:

  • AAT qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA

Attributes & Skills:

Essential skills

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounting role with responsibility for month-end processes
  • Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Experience preparing journals, balance sheet reconciliations and assisting with management accounts
  • Experience of bank reconciliations, VAT and intercompany accounting
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of formulas, lookups and pivot tables
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Proactive approach to problem solving with the ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team

Desirable skills​

  • Experience within the construction, property development or housebuilding sector
  • Experience accounting for joint ventures or multiple legal entities
  • Experience using ERP or accounting systems such as COINS, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics or similar
  • Knowledge of CIS and construction-related VAT rules
  • Experience supporting year-end audit and statutory reporting
