A qualified Financial Accountant is required for a permanent position within the Finance Department of a regional construction business based in Durham. The role will have a key focus on statutory reporting, financial compliance and year-end audit, alongside supporting improvements across the wider finance function.

The Role
The Financial Accountant will take responsibility for preparing annual statutory financial statements in accordance with FRS 102, managing statutory reporting requirements and coordinating the external audit process.
Additional responsibilities will include preparing VAT returns, supporting corporation tax requirements, producing the monthly Group Board management information pack and providing technical accounting guidance. The role will also identify and implement opportunities to improve financial controls, processes and automation across the Group.
Experience Required
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
- Strong technical financial accounting knowledge.
- Experience preparing consolidated statutory accounts under UK GAAP / FRS 102.
- Experience managing or leading external audits.
- Strong understanding of statutory reporting and financial compliance.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience within construction, engineering or contracting would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of CIS and construction VAT would be beneficial.
- Experience delivering finance process improvements or automation would be desirable.
