We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Quality Manager to support a major civil engineering project based in Teesside.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established contractor delivering a large-scale infrastructure scheme. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing quality management across the project, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures, relevant standards and client requirements.
The Role:
- Manage and oversee all aspects of quality assurance and quality control across the project.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project Quality Management Plan and associated quality documentation.
- Establish, review and approve task-specific Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and Method Statements across the contractor and supply chain.
- Ensure construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, Method Statements, RAMS and project requirements.
- Monitor site activities to ensure works are completed to the required quality standards and specifications.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and quality checks, identifying any areas requiring improvement.
- Plan and conduct technical capability audits of contractors, suppliers and third-party testing providers across the supply chain.
- Assess supply chain vendor readiness and witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) where required.
- Liaise closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, testing providers and the wider project team.
- Manage the inspection, testing and handover process, ensuring appropriate records and evidence are maintained.
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), ensuring issues are investigated, corrective actions are implemented and records are closed out effectively.
- Track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to ensure quality issues are addressed and recurrence is prevented, helping to minimise project rework and delays.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) workshops following quality failures, identifying underlying causes and implementing effective corrective and preventative measures.
- Review and maintain quality records, including inspection reports, test certificates, material approvals, NCRs, CAPA records and handover documentation.
- Ensure subcontractors and suppliers are working in accordance with project quality requirements and approved procedures.
- Assist with the review and approval of construction documentation and ensure appropriate quality records are maintained throughout the works.
- Support internal and external audits and liaise with the client and relevant stakeholders on quality matters.
- Provide regular updates to the project team regarding quality performance, outstanding actions, trends and potential issues.
- Promote a strong quality culture across the project and provide guidance and support to site teams and the wider supply chain.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working as a Quality Manager within the civil engineering, construction or infrastructure sector.
- Strong understanding of construction quality management systems, processes and procedures.
- Experience working on large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of inspection, testing, quality assurance and quality control requirements.
- Proven experience establishing and approving ITPs and Method Statements.
- Experience auditing contractors, suppliers and third-party testing providers.
- Experience assessing vendor readiness and witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Strong experience managing NCRs and CAPA processes through to effective close-out.
- Experience leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and workshops.
- Experience working on highways, utilities, earthworks, structures, public realm or major infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Relevant construction or engineering qualification.
- Strong knowledge of relevant construction standards, specifications and legislation.
- Experience working with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and wider project teams.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage quality requirements across a busy project environment.
Remuneration:
- £400 to £425 per day (dependent on experience)
