We are currently seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join a major infrastructure project in Redcar on a freelance basis. This is a key site-based role, responsible for managing and coordinating a section of works, ensuring delivery is achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with programme, budget, quality, and design requirements.

The Role 

  • Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will play a vital role in the successful execution of complex civil engineering works from planning through to completion.
  • Manage and coordinate day-to-day engineering activities within your allocated section of works.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, quality standards, and project requirements.
  • Prepare and implement method statements, risk assessments, and temporary works procedures.
  • Oversee setting out, surveying, and quality assurance activities.
  • Monitor progress against programme and identify opportunities to mitigate delays.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives.
  • Resolve technical issues and provide engineering support to site teams.
  • Maintain accurate site records and reporting documentation.

Experience / Qualifcations

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of UK construction standards, CDM regulations, and NEC/JCT contracts.
  • Proficiency in setting out and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GPS/Total Station systems).
  • CSCS card (essential).
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification (preferred).
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor certification (desirable).

Remuneration:

  • £400 / £450 per day (dependent on experience)
